Jazz in the Bowl with Freedom Trio

Grab your lawn chair and head to Highland Park for Jazz in the Bowl Tuesday, June 18th with the Freedom Trio!

In honor of Juneteenth, Highland Park Conservancy, WXXI, and RPO are proud to present the Freedom Trio: Herb Smith on trumpet, Peter Chwazik on bass, and Joe Parker on drums, with special guest , RPO violinist Molly Werts McDonald.

The evening gets underway with a Casa Larga wine sampling from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Then, the Freedom Trio's original music will fill the Bowl from 6:00 - 7:00 PM. The evening concludes at 8:00 . It all takes place at the Highland Park Bowl, 1137 South Avenue, Rochester NY 14620.

The program is free and open to the public. (Rain location is Asbury First Methodist Church, 1050 East Ave, Rochester 14607)

Our emcee for the evening is Reverend Julius "JD" Jackson, Jr, known throughout Rochester for his ministry and community work. Reverend JD Jackson, Jr. is currently pastor of the United Church of Pittsford and a Highland Park Conservancy board member.

Freedom Trio's original compositions incorporate jazz, rock, classical, blues, gospel, and Indian classical music - a use of rhythms, hypnotic loops, grounding bass lines, soaring trumpet melodies, and electronic enhancements. They are committed to creating new, thoughtful, and playful ways of exploring modern improvised music, while keeping melody in the forefront.

"The music is groovy, and sometimes weird, but you will get it, and we think you'll love it!"
